Description Job Summary:

Responsible for complex, technical work in a wide range of environmental disci­plines to achieve compliance with federal and state regulatory requirements and with Calpine Environmental stan­dards. Reviews, interprets and advises management on complex environmental compliance or environmental policy matters. Has complete understanding of environmental principles, concepts, practices, standards and regulations. Reviews plant procedures and make recommendations for updates according to laws and regulations and good power plant practices. Investigates environmental incidents as necessary. Recommends im­provements in processes, design, pro­cedures, and operating equipment, to minimize the hazardous potential. Develops and conducts em­ployee training, emergency preparedness and qual­ity assurance programs. Prepares and maintains environmental compliance documents and records appropriate to be completed at a regional level, as determined by Environmental Services management and Calpine Power Operations. Coordinates the timely modification or renewal of all permits, scheduling and supervision of stack tests, etc. May serve as the key environmental position in small field or plant locations.

Job Responsibilities:

•Developing general knowledge of Environmental regulations at state, federal, and local level, as well as plant programs to comply with those regulations.
•Developing use and/or application of basic principles, theories and concepts of environmental engineering and environmental regulatory compliance.
•Basic familiarity with knowledge area, staff, technologies, services, and practices.
•Administers environmental programs and provides technical and regulatory expertise to ensure environmental compliance and continuous improvement of Environmental programs and culture.
•Makes decisions regarding environmental and compliance issues within defined parameters. Regularly contributes useful ideas on new processes, tools and services..
•Leads, researches, prepare/plans and schedules programs assigned areas exercising discretion in formulating summary of results and recommendations using independent decision-making skills
•Work typically consists of a variety of tasks, which provides for progressive experience and increased job knowledge.
•Plays defined role within projects of large scope; makes decisions requiring exercise of discretion and independent judgment regarding matters of significance ranging from basic to moderately complex environmental compliance issues
•Able to administer environmental training and programs based on general and complex environmental policy, principles, concepts, laws and regulations
•Must compare and evaluate possible course of actions and make decisions/recommendations for improvement in process, design, operating procedures to minimize risk.
•General instructions on new assignments may be required.
•May coordinate efforts of others.
•Regular communication internal and external to the organization.
•Advises management on compliance issues and potential risks
Requirements •Bachelor’s Degree, preferably in Engineering or Science is required or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
•Typically less than 3 years’ experience
